This class is a blended learning system style of learning where many of the course materials are online based and all the state mandated skills are to be done in person at our facility or one of our partnering facilities. All tests and quizzes, minus the final exam, are done online. Once you have completed this training, you will receive a course completion to be used when you schedule you state exam. Without this, you cannot test with the TCFP to obtain Basic Structural Firefighter Certification.

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to obtain certification at Firefighter Levels I and II through the state of Texas.

The course is comprised of two parts – an online portion and a face-to-face skills portion. You must successfully complete both parts to be eligible to sit for the certification examination for the TCFP.

The Firefighter I & II online portion is completed by using a home computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. It consists of reading assignments, online knowledge-building activities, online discussions with your instructor and fellow students, videos and multimedia, module quizzes, and a final exam.  This class is setup like a traditional college semester, lasting 12-14 weeks.

The Firefighter I & II skills session is a two- week, face-to-face learning style consisting of classroom and hands-on field application training. You will put your online learning into practice by participating in field exercises and scenarios, as well as classroom exercises and discussions. There will also be mandatory discussion online with your peers. The two- week skills session will begin towards the end of the class during the final weeks of online training. Some classes may have meetup days on the weekends as well during the course.

This program meets or exceeds all requirements set by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, as well as NFPA 472, Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents.

In addition, you will also receive a certification and training in Rope Rescue Level 1 via the SFFMA.
