SHIPPING IN DECEMBER! Introducing the all-new CLUTCH, the latest evolution in rescue and rope access hardware that enables the technical rope professional to do more with less. This multi-purpose device was designed and engineered in collaboration by two companies with a collective 90 year history in rope management under heavy loads: CMC, a company with roots in rescue and rope access, and Harken Industrial, a manufacturing company with roots in high performance sailing.
Designed for intuitive, efficient operation, ease of use and optimal control, the versatile CLUTCH is suited to a multitude of rigging operations.
PPE Inspections
The CLUTCH should have a periodic inspection performed by a competent person at least once every 12 months, after any exceptional event(s), or if there is any doubt to the condition of the product. For each inspection, CMC recommends the Periodic PPE Inspection Form be completed, signed and archived for the life of the product. In case of retirement, ensure to render the device useless before disposal to prevent further use.
The CLUTCH User Manual, CLUTCH Inspection Procedure and CLUTCH Periodic PPE Inspection Form provided below are resources for detailed inspections. They are not exhaustive and inspection by a competent person is required. See the PPE homepage for more information on a “competent person.”
By performing a periodic inspection and signing periodic inspection forms, you are declaring yourself as a competent person and assuming responsibility for the implementation of the inspection processes and proper disposition of the PPE.

Placing a CLUTCH at the head of a mechanical advantage system enables efficient hauling via the integrated rotating sheave (NFPA G-rated Pulley) while allowing immediate lowering of the load without system modification.
Warnings:
Fully read and understand the CLUTCH technical manual before applying the following techniques.
Mastering these techniques requires training.
Consult a professional before attempting to perform these techniques on your own.
Test Method
A 100kg test mass was raised with several rigging configurations placing different devices at the head of the system:
CMC CLUTCH
CMC MPD
Bobbin Style Descent Device
CMC HD4 Pulley
CMC Proseries Carabiner
The test rope was CMC G-11 Lifeline. For the 3:1 system, a CMC PMP Swivel Pulley was utilized.
The force required to raise the test mass at a constant speed was recorded. Due to variables that are difficult to reproduce, the data is given for information only.
Efficiency (EFF) is calculated by dividing the theoretical force required to raise the load by the measured force required.
SIMPLE DIRECTIONAL AT THE ANCHOR (1:1 THEORETICAL EFFICIENCY)
SIMPLE DIRECTIONAL AT THE LOAD (2:1 THEORETICAL EFFICIENCY)

CMC’s Rescue Rack offers several innovative features to provide enhanced performance. The large diameter aluminum bars provide excellent control for rescue loads. These bars are center drilled to reduce weight and allow for better heat dissipation. The proprietary black finish also prevents transfer of material to the rope, common with bare aluminum bars. The Turbo Bar at the top has a tie-off pin on the side. The second bar has a straight slot to help warn the user of a mis-rigged rack. Since the top two bars do most of the work, they are a full one inch in diameter. The next four angled slot bars are 7/8-inch diameter. The stainless steel frame has a welded eye. Comes assembled, ready for use.
About CMC’s Super Black Finish The CMC 3D, Rescue Rack, and Rescue 8 products feature an exceptionally long-wear proprietary finish because typical hard or soft anodizing on aluminum descenders eventually wears through. This finish also prevents transfer of material onto the rope, common with bare aluminum components. After years of heavy use, our products and test samples with this Super Black Finish continue to be used in CMC School classes without showing any indication of the finish wearing through.
